Two maps, ca.1862, of S. A. M. Wood. The first map is a situation map in pencil and details the area surrounding Franklin, Tenn. Included on the map are major roads such as Franklin Pike, Wilson Pike and Charlotte Pike as well as the surrounding towns of Brentwood and Petersburg. Wood's Franklin map also denotes the locations of troop positions for both armies. The second map is an area map, done in ink, of the Bardstown, Kentucky, vicinity. The towns of Bardstown, Perryville, Harrodsburg, Fredricksburg and Springfield are shown along with several other neighboring townships. This map also includes the major roads and waterways in the area.

Sterling Alexander Martin Wood was a lawyer, legislator and Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. Under the command of Albert Sidney Johnston, he was active in repressing pro-Union elements in East Tennessee. He was appointed a Brigadier General in 1862 Jan. and was on the field at Shiloh, Perryville, Murfreesboro and Chickamauga.
